Top 10 Indie Reads 2013

Guest Post by Leah

10. Crimson by Nickie Asher
This is a very fast paced book! I caught myself holding my breath more than once. The main characters were well developed. Some of the secondary characters were a bit of a mystery. The pace of the book was just amazing! I liked the story and watching as the main character grew and learned not only about his new life but about himself as well. The love scenes were hot and the violence was hardcore. I don't know if this book is going to be part of a series or not, but if it is I will happily get the next book and continue on with these characters

9. Expiez (Redeem Your Blood Lust) by C. D. Hussey
I am loving this human vampire series! This installment was a bit short but packed with action that seemed nonstop! The characters are well developed. The story line seems to go from book to book very smoothly. There was one part of the book that seemed anticlimactic... but it was something that had to be done. I look forward to more in this series!

8. Vanilla On Top (A Walk On The Wild Side book 1)
by C.J. Ellisson
Just finished Vanilla on Top. I thought the characters were very believable and real. I enjoyed watching them grow. The story moved along very well. I thought all in all it was very well conceived and written. I have to agree with some of the other reviews and say that compared to 50 Shades I liked Vanilla on Top better. The characters had more dimension to them and their reactions to problems were less juvenile. I liked getting both sides in one book as well.
Congrats C.J. on a wonderful book!

7. Redemption (Darkness Falls #2) by Ivory Quinn
I was ready this time for an emotional ride, but what I wasn't prepared for was the range of emotions! I love the way Ivory tells a story. The characters are so believable and so lovable I start to miss them even before I come to the end of the book. I hope Ivory continues to write books about these characters and their lives... as well as finding out how Noelle adjusts. Honestly I will read anything she writes at this point after only reading 2 of her books I am a fan of her writing and will continue to read as long as she continues to write.

6. If I Were You (Inside Out #1)
by Lisa Renee Jones
Amazing book! I was pulled in from the first page and did not want to let go after the last. I love the characters and felt connected to them. The story was very well told. It is one of those endings I am not usually a fan of... but somehow did not mind at the end of this book. I can not wait to read the next book in the series and then to find other gems written by Lisa Renee Jones! I am hooked!

5. Tristan's Lyceum Wolves (Immortals of New Orleans # 3)
by Kym Grosso
I love this series!
Tristan's Lyceum Wolves moves at such a fast pace I found myself scooted to the edge of my chair holding my breath more than once. I loved getting to know Tristan better and all the new characters we are introduced to in this book. There is tons of action, lots of steamy hot sex and some very sweet love. There is humor and drama (yes I did cry) and an asshat of a bad guy. She adds something new to the genre and makes it all hers.
I am so in love with the people and the world Kym has created I hope it continues on for a very long time.
I highly recommend this book, as I have all the books in her series, you wont regret one moment spent with this series.

4. Moonlight (Order of The Black Swan #4) by Victoria Danann
Black Swan Saga just keeps getting better and better when you think she can't possibly top her last book she shows you just how wrong you were.
There is a lot going on in this book! As characters continue to grow and stories continue to expand and lives interweave and get so much richer you feel like such a part of the story you can not help but get emotional. When little Helm makes faces I grin. When husband and wife realize just how deep their love for one another is I cry happy tears. When someone does something unexpected I gasp. When I am reading one of Victoria's books I know I can count on being emotionally immersed in her amazing multi-dimensional world. I also know she will surprise me at least once and will leave me panting and waiting for her next book. I don't know where she will take me next but you better believe I will be waiting in line ticket in hand ready for the next adventure!

3. Obsession (Darkness Falls #1)
by Ivory Quinn
I made the mistake of thinking this book was going to be another 50 shades... Thankfully I could not have been more wrong. This book goes way beyond 50. I felt so much while reading this book. I would catch myself smiling when there was playful banter to being so angry I had to put my Kindle down and walk away a couple times to hoping love would be enough to "fix" this man to damn near sobbing. I read this book in one day and was up til 2 am because I could not rest until I knew what happened.
Spectacular character development made these characters come alive. And as much as I want to jump on the alt ending bandwagon... I just can't. It was a shattering ending but I would not change one word of it... you can't be as damaged as Gabriel was and be made whole by the power of love... it just doesn't always work out and sometimes I think we have to remember that.
I eagerly look forward to the next book in the series.
Ivory Quinn has a new fan. I will buy her books as long as she continues writing them.

2.Logan's Acadian Wolves (Immortals of New Orleans #4)
by Kym Grosso
This series just gets better and better. The characters are amazing they were so easy to connect to! I loved Wynter's spunk, courage and tenacity. I loved Logan as Alpha and his struggle with accepting his new role and his own feelings. I love Dimitri too and his use of humor and his good-natured ribbing of his alpha.
The story line was solid and had me guessing right up til the end about who the bad guys were! I went through everything with the characters! I ached for them, I rooted for them, my breath got taken away, I laughed I cried... and whoa! The sex scenes were Hot hot hot!!!
I am so hooked on Kym Grosso's books I can't wait to see where this series goes but wherever it goes I am happily along for the ride

1.Gathering Storm (Order of The Black Swan #5)
by Victoria Danann
You don't read Victoria's books, you experience them. The tapestry that Victoria has woven with these stories and people is so stunningly brilliant and at the same time rich with deep undertones that you can not help but fall in love.
Victoria's books get under your skin. They work their way into your heart and you fall in love...
in love with these honorable Knights and Ladies...
in love with the depth of love that is shared between husbands and wives...
in love with their too adorable babies...
in love with young men training and learning about honor...
in love with people who don't know the meaning of the word...
The honor of these Knights, and Knights in training, is astounding. I finished this book through a haze of tears that I was constantly batting away so I could continue reading about some of my most favorite characters... no people, to call them characters cheapens the experience.
Then before you know it they get into your head and make you think...
This book has me thinking about honor and what it means to me and what I have passed on to my own sons... I believe if my sons were transported to this dimension they would be right at home with the Black Swans (especially my second son). And this is another reason I love these books, when I have read the last page I am no where near done...

Now I am going to go blow my nose and dry my eyes and meditate some more on honor and bravery and love.
